Spooner House Shelter Services
If you are in need of shelter services you should call the state helpline "211"
       2016 Fiscal Year Facts:
  • Emergency shelter to 140 individuals including:
             -20 veterans
             -69 children
             -30 total families
             ...which resulted in 13,176 total occupied  shelter bed nights provided  
  • 39,528 meals to residents
  • Weekly meetings with the agency case manager for guidance, support, and caring 
  • Weekly sessions with shelter supervisors to guide residents with respect to their goals and progress

Valley Food Bank 
at Spooner House
The food bank at Spooner House operates by appointment Mnday through Thursday and on emergency basis as needed, providing 10 days' worth of groceries once per calendar month for each client in need.
2016 Fiscal Year Facts:
  • More than 114,000 Meals to Lower Naugatuck Valley residents
  • Food to over 4,000 Adults, Children and Seniors
  • During November and December, provided 649 households in need with holiday meal baskets, complete with a frozen turkey and all the fixings
If you are in need of food bank assistance, please call 203-225-0453 extension 100 to make an appointment.
 
You will need to bring the following information:
 
  • Name, date of birth and form of identification for all members of the household. 
  • Verification of monthly income for the entire household, including wages, pension, unemployment benefits, SAGA/Basic Needs, Social Security income or disability, TANF, child suport, alimony, WIC, food stamps, etc. 
  • Verification of monthly expenses, including rent/mortgage, auto/transportation, utilities--electric, gas, oil, phone, cable, food, household rentals--appliances/furniture, medical costs, laundry, etc.

Emergency No-Freeze Shelter Services:
From November through March, Spooner House operates an emergency drop-in "No Freeze" shelter in order to keep people from freezing to death during the cold winter months.

2016 Fiscal Year Facts:


  • Spooner House provided 628 "No-Freeze" occupied bed nights
  • 31 individuals utilized "No-Freeze" shelter; 24 males and 7 females
  • 1,256 meals were provided to "No-Freeze" shelter guests
